VT2: Life In Super Bowl Territory
It’s tough being the largest and best-equipped post production facility and soundstage in Houston, especially when the Super Bowl comes to town. It’s even tougher when CBS Sports comes calling. According to VT2 Media Design & Communications general manager Cliff Davis, CBS Sports will be taking over most of his facility 24/7 for the week prior to the Super Bowl.

But it’s not all fun and games (and billings). To accommodate CBS Sports, VT2 will install an outgoing Vyvx feed, build three Avid Symphony suites plus two additional digitizing stations, a Flame suite, install 10 DigiBeta decks, install an additional T1 data line (secure to NY), add 23 more phone lines, an additional PBX phone system, and interface with a post production truck to be parked outside their facility. All this and more so that VT2 can help CBS Sports to produce their pre-game show programming, features, bumpers, the Super Bowl XXXVIII broadcast show reel, and other related graphics, animation, audio, and edited segments related to the Super Bowl Sunday broadcast. VT2 was an easy choice for CBS. “VT2 is the ideal environment for our needs. Close proximity to Reliant Stadium, spacious rooms, state-of-the-art equipment, and skilled professional staff. We couldn’t ask for more,”
said Arthur Harris, vice president of broadcast operations for CBS.
While it’s the first time that VT2 will be taken over by a client, VT2 knows that it’s their regular stream of clientele that pays the bills. “Even though the CBS Sports deal brings a tremendous amount of work to our facility,
we still have additional edit suites and several graphic systems available for other clients to book,” said Davis. This includes VT2’s 75’x75’ soundstage as well as their own production team. The biggest benefit to VT2: Having 800 million Super Bowl viewers see work from VT2 and their creative team.
